Type 3 SPD: the last line of defence
Type 1 SPDs are fitted at the main incoming supply, shielding your system from powerful external surges, including those caused by lightning strikes, while type 2 devices step in further downstream, protecting against internally generated surges that can come from switching operations or nearby equipment. Together, they form a strong first line of defence, reducing the risk of costly damage before power ever reaches your control panels or machinery.
Crucially, and not to be overlooked, type 3 SPDs are the final piece of the puzzle, providing an extra layer of defence where it matters most. Installed directly upstream of the end device, these units catch and suppress any remaining voltage spikes that slip past your main protection, ensuring that your most sensitive equipment, such as servers, controllers, and power supplies, stays safe from damage and downtime.
